UndergraduateCourses

The compulsory courses of the “Electrical Engineering and Automation” undergraduatecultivation program in 2021 are divided into 156 credits, of which 46 credits foruniversity-level general education (ideological and political, physical education, English, and cultural quality courses), and 110 credits for professional education (33 creditsforbasic courses in mathematics, physics and chemistry, 49 credits for professionalcompulsory courses, 7 credits for professional elective courses, 11 credits for practice and 10 credits for comprehensive thesis training). The characteristics of these courses are the combinations of strong electricity and weak electricity, software and hardware, devices and systems, and information and energy.

List ofMainCourses:

(1) Humanities and social science courses: politics, economics, management, and English;

(2) Basiccourses ofnatural science: mathematics, physics, chemistry and biology;

(3)Basic courses of engineering technology: circuit principles, electromagnetic fields, electronic technology, automatic control, signals and systems, engineering mechanics, computer hardware and software, communication technology and network application, single-chip microcomputer embedded systems, digital signal processing, etc.;

(4) Professional basic courses: electrical engineering, power system analysis, high voltage engineering, power electronics technology foundation

(5) Professional courses: power system relay protection, power plant engineering, power system stability and control, power system dispatch automation, power market introduction, overvoltage andprotection, DC transmission technology, power transmission and control, power electronics simulation design,micro motors, dielectric materials and insulation technology, information theory and power systems, etc.

In the energy revolution, thestate and society have put forward a large amount of demand for internationalized and compound high-end innovation leaders in the energy field. In the context of energy revolution, the Department of Electrical Engineering of Tsinghua University proposed and established the International Energy Internet Class for Electrical Engineering and Automation in April 2017, andformulated a specialcultivation program for students in the International Energy Internet Class based on thecultivation program for electrical engineering and automation. Thiscultivation program customizes some coursesfor the major of electrical engineering and automation, addscompulsory andelective courses such as engineering thermodynamics, energy economy,andenergy policy, etc., which are of international characteristics in thecultivation goals (enabling students towork in important global energy organizations in the future),cultivationprocess (1-semester overseas exchanges), course content (international frontiers, global perspectives), teaching methods (English or bilingual teaching), and the first enrollment began in September 2017.

Practice Teaching

There are a large number ofrequirement for practicein thecultivation programs for undergraduates and graduate students of the Department of Electrical Engineering. The compulsory practicelinksfor undergraduates include electronic technology practice, professionalsubjectpractice, computer practice, comprehensive thesis training andproduction practice, etc. There are also compulsory intensive practice links for graduate students in the summer vacation of the first academic year. This kind of experiment and training combining theory and practice is of great benefit to improving students’ practiceability, innovation ability and the consciousness of serving the society.

Actively depending on the advantagesof cooperation in the electrical industry, the Department of Electrical Engineering has established long-term strategic partnerships with many top companies in the electrical field in talent training over the years, set upvarious production practice bases with characteristics such as Shanghai Electric, Schneider, Inner Mongolia Energy Base, and Xi’an Electric, and constituted a mode of undergraduate production practiceof centralized internshipsmainlyand decentralized internships as supplements whichstudentscanvoluntarily choose.Our students havewonmanyGold, Silver and Bronze Awards for Practice ofTsinghua University. Among them, the “Dream Net” practiceteam ofour department has successively built photovoltaic microgrids in Xinjiang, Sichuan and other places for remote areas without electricity since 2015, used the knowledge learned to benefit the society, and won the fames of“Outstanding Team of Social Practice in Summer among Capital College and Technical School Student”, “Excellent Practice Award (Mobile Cup) for Social Practice to Students ofTsinghua University” and “Gold Award Team of Social Practice of Students inTsinghua University”.

TeachingLaboratoryConstruction

To satisfy the demand fortalent training and scientific research, the Department of Electrical Engineering of Tsinghua Universityis constantly upgrading the teaching and scientific research conditions, promoting the improvement andreconstruction of platforms such as the State Key Laboratory of Power System, Electrical Engineering Experimental Teaching Center, and Electrical and Electronic Experimental Center, andhasgradually realized the improvement of scientific research conditions with complete software and hardware functions and sufficient teaching equipment, which laysa solid foundation for key technology research,professional talent training, and high-level academic achievements.

The State Key Laboratory ofPower System hasbeenadhering to the major national needsin the electric power industry for many years, actively participating in the research of important national subjectsthemed “safety, economy, and environmental friendliness”,carrying out important forward-looking basic research, applied basic research andkey technology research, and actively promoting talent training withrelevant scientific researchachievements, such as power system simulation software CloudPSS and electrical and electronic simulation software DSIM. In 2019,the Department of Electrical Engineering established the Energy Internet Sub-institute ofState Key Laboratory of EnergyInternet Instituteof Tsinghua University and theWind and Photovoltaic Energy Storage Sub-institute of theState Key Laboratory of Xinjiang University, which further improved thecapability of talent training.

TheState Electrical Engineering Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center,established in 2008 on the basis of theElectricalEngineeringAutomation Laboratory,consists of7 specific laboratories, namelypower system teaching laboratory, high-voltage teaching laboratory, electrical equipment and intelligent teaching laboratory, gas discharge and plasmateaching laboratory,electrical teaching laboratory, power electronics and motor control teaching laboratory, and electrical engineering automation teaching laboratory, each of which assumes dual responsibilities in scientific research and teaching,and plays an important role in supporting theteaching andscientific researchin the Department of Electrical Engineering.

The Electrical and Electronic Experimental Teaching Center is a BeijingCity-level and Tsinghua University-level experimental teaching demonstration center, which supports3 electrical departments (Department of Electrical Engineering, Department of Automation and Department of Computer) and17 non-electrical departments (includingDepartment of BiomedicalEngineering) to open 16 electrical and electronicexperimental courses for undergraduates and postgraduates of more than 130 classes/times every year, equivalent 220,000 hours (number of students× number of experimental hours) per year.The electrical and electronic experimental teaching center has four laboratories,namely basic electrical engineering, applied electrical engineering, electronic technology and EDA laboratories.
