Introduction of Department of Electrical Engineering

The Department of Electrical Engineering of Tsinghua University, founded in 1932, t is one of the three earliest engineering departments established by Tsinghua University. It is also the first pilot unit authorized by the State for doctoral degrees in first-class disciplines. It includes all five second-level disciplines in the first-level disciplines of "Electrical Engineering". The discipline of electrical engineering ranks the first in the national evaluation of disciplines. The Department was evaluated as "one of the top such departments in the world" in the International Discipline Assessment in 2010, and in 2017, its major of Electrical & Electronic Engineering ranked the 7th in the world (QS Ranking).

The scientific research of Department of Electrical Engineering is geared to the two major industries of electrics and electrical engineering. It always aims at both international frontier basic research and major needs of national economic construction. In the past two decades, it has won 27 national science and technology awards and 110 provincial and ministerial awards. Its State Key Laboratory of Electric Power System is the earliest state key laboratory established in the field of electric power system. In 2015, the Department led the establishment of the Energy Internet Research Institute of Tsinghua University and the Sichuan Energy Internet Research Institute, both of which have shown great potential for development.

The Department has strong teaching staff in reasonable age structure. There are more than 120 full-time teachers and researchers, including 34 in-service professors and 73 with senior and associate senior professional titles. Among them, there is one academician respectively from the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Academy of Engineering, one foreign fellow from the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences, one fellow from the British Royal Academy of Engineering, eight IEEE Fellows, 15 IET (IEE) Fellows, one nationally outstanding teacher, five specially-appointed professors of Yangtze River Scholars, eight winners of the National Outstanding Youth Fund, and five winners of the Young Yangtze River Scholars and Outstanding Youth Funds. In addition, the Department has one innovation group of the Fund Committee and one innovation team of the Ministry of Education.

Moreover, the Department of Electrical Engineering attaches importance to imparting knowledge and educating people as a good tradition, and it also provides an important talent base for high-level scientific researches. About 20% of the undergraduate students enrolled in the Department each year are the top 10 or all kinds of leading and top-notch students in the college entrance examination. The doctoral students directly studying in the university rank in the top 30 of the grade in academic performance, and the doctoral students enrolled in other universities are also basically in the top 3% in the performance.

At the end of 2015, the Department of Electrical Engineering started the reform of personnel system. At present, it has established a perfect mechanism of quasi-appointment and long-term appointment (similar to the tenure system abroad), in which the annual salary system of teachers in teaching and research series is fully implemented. 2. Conditions

(1) The applicants should have doctoral degrees in electrical engineering and related disciplines from famous universities at home and abroad, with overseas research or work experience, have achieved excellent results in scientific research, and have published high-quality papers in international mainstream journals;

2) The applicants should be no more than 35 years old, and can work in full time in Department of Electrical Engineering, Tsinghua University;

3) The applicants for teaching and research series are fluent in English and can teach English courses, and have strong teaching abilities that meet the requirements of the relevant teaching level of the University (including the requirements in the trial lecture organized by the University).
